GALLEY FAVES
The galley (nautical term for “kitchen”) in the Maritimo M51 is a well-thought out space. It has heaps of storage in a beautiful cupboard with plenty of shelves. A large fridge and freezer (complete with Beth’s favorite – an icemaker!), a dishwasher, a 4-burner Miele glass stovetop, and a Miele combination microwave/ oven offer all the conveniences of a home kitchen.
There’s a lot of storage both beside and under the sink in drawers. A very clever cabinet contains a slide-out trash container beneath a shelf that adds even more storage space to the galley.
Of course, we can always use more space for more stuff! To fit some larger appliances, like her blender, Instapot, baking trays, and other odds-n-ends, Beth bought a nice ottoman that looks great with the decor of the salon. Not only does it hold these extra galley gadgets, it also adds comfy seating or a place to put up our feet.
Being that we are at sea for long periods of time means we need to carry a lot of food stores with us. And Maritimo smartly designed the salon settee so that there’s loads of storage beneath the cushions. Our master bed is built on a platform that lifts up on air struts, beneath which is even more storage. The hardest part about having all of these spaces on Tangaroa is remembering where we put everything!
Here are some of Beth’s favorite galley items and things we find quite useful aboard Tangaroa:
